Built in 1957 by Southern Railway, Atlanta's Inman Yard plays a vital role in today's Norfolk Southern system. No longer used as a general freight classification yard, Inman is a large intermodal hub, hosting many inbound and outbound trains each day, as well as block-swapping for through-trains. Several smaller satellite yards in the Atlanta metropolitan area supports the general freight business. Piedmont Division train 348 from Linwood, NC, is seen here with the Southern heritage unit leading the way, having recently picked up freight at the yard in Chamblee, for forwarding to the hump yard in Chattanooga for classification.
