Amtrak No. 5 leaves Rocky, Colorado, on clear blocks, even though Union Pacific MNYRO climbs through Tunnel 1 in the background ahead of the passenger train. Amtrak is approaching milepost 19 and negotiates Little 10 Curve, while the rear of the freight above is passing milepost 23 as the train begins pulling into the clear at Plain siding to let him by. No. 5 never does get a restricting signal from the freight as it proceeds up the Front Range on February 9, 2015.
