Saiccor No. 2, ex SAR Class 19D No. 2633, is about to leave the Timber Exchange Yard at Umkomaas on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast for the short haul up to the mill with a load of 11 timber wagons. Saiccor No. 2 has been the most elusive of the three Saiccor Class 19D locomotives over the last few years for me, in terms of photo opportunities versus my visits coinciding with the loco being on duty. As time gets shorter and shorter, before steam operations come to an end at the mill (and diesel traction takes over), I was very pleased to find Saiccor No. 2 working the exchange yard on a chance visit I made. Saiccor No. 2 was built by Skoda in 1938.
