Union Pacific is throwing everything it has at Sherman Hill today, March 19 1966. And it has a lot. Turbines, big DD35As and strings of GP30s and ‘35s have all tackled the grade east out of Laramie this afternoon. Now it’s GE’s turn again as U50 51 and 36 clatter up the .82 percent. Almost three years old and eight years away from retirement, the units are regarded as not completely successful, and more and more will be relegated to the flat land east of Cheyenne.
