1976 was not a good year for the namesake companies of the city of Reading, Pennsylvania. Of course, it's common knowledge among the railfan fraternity that Reading's railroad, Reading Company, was absorbed into Conrail. Reading Brewing Company, makers of Reading Premium Beer, also closed their doors. Ten years later, a westbound Conrail train passes the building that was once the brewery on rails that used to be Reading Company's main line. Having had a chance to try Reading Premium as a kid, I can confirm that the railroad was the greater loss.
