Just days off the erecting floor at GE’sErie, Pennsylvania, plant, spotless U25B 230 with two older sisters leads a freight up the approach to the Harry S Truman Bridge at Birmingham Missouri. Once across the 427-foot span, the train will turn west on the Kansas City Terminal Railway trackage and head for Rock Island’s own yards at Armourdale, on the Kansas side of Kansas City.
