Built in 1900 by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, the Hamlet, North Carolina, passenger station was constructed to serve two tracks at a 90ยบ crossing. Today, after having been moved across the east/west main, the station serves only Amtrak's Silver Star (New York NY to Savannah GA). During its heyday, the station also served as a division headquarters. Between 2001 and 2004 the entire Queen Anne-style station was moved across a set of tracks for safety, and converted into a museum by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The Silver Star stops on the track in the foreground, and the silver box alongside the track is one of several that was used for watering cars back in the SAL/SCL days.
