Remarks & Notes
Built in 1877 by the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad, the old brick passenger station stands in stark contrast to the 2001-built Acela Express trainset passing by in Newark, Delaware. The PW&B became the Philadelphia; Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad, which was then folded into the mighty Pennsylvania Railroad. The depot is no longer used, but the old Pennsy four-track Northeast Corridor is still very much in use by Amtrak (who took over passenger service from PRR's successor Penn Central in 1971). The depot and the Acela were built 124 years apart, and the depot will most likely outlive Amtrak 2038!
