A trio of DL-535E begins the descent down the Sawtooth Mountains, which are part of the Alaska Coastal Mountains. The scenery is breathtaking, the slopes steep and my mother clings tightly to the inside seat. Good thing these trains don't move fast. The conductor tells me they expect 5,000 people to ride the White Pass this day. I think the railroad has made far more money riding tourist around than it did with the Yukon Gold Rush.
