The last light of January 4, 1980, is fading rapidly as a southbound BN freight makes it way down Colorado’s Joint Line south of Castle Rock, headed straight toward 14,115-ft. Pikes Peak. Named after early explorer Zebulon Pike (who never made it to the summit), it is Colorado’s closest peak to the midwestern prairies.
