| Monticello Railway Museum's restored and fully operational H-4 class 2-8-0 #401 simmers in the shop preparing for a series of multiple excursions. No. 401 was built by Baldwin in 1907. Amazingly, with the help of a major donor in 1995, work begun on a complete restoration bringing steam back to the Museum for the first time since 1987. Southern #401 was chosen but she needed a lot of work. In fact, a brand new boiler had to be fabricated from scratch along with a new body for the tender which the Museum staff took on themselves. The restoration wrapped up in September of 2010 and she's been in service ever since! |
