Remarks & Notes
I paid a visit to London to view the display of poppies outside the Tower of London and in the afternoon I paid a visit to the Science museum in Kensington. On display is ROCKET. Probably the first well known steam locomotive of the railway era. Built by Stephenson for the Rainhill trials in 1829 it defeated all other contestants and became the locomotive of choice for the newly formed Liverpool to Manchester railway, which opened the following year. Rocket was in charge of the inaugural train and was responsible for the first railway related death when it ran over William Huskisson an MP and VIP present for the opening ceremony.
