End marker lights and LED destination board of RTDX No. 4004 glow on the new stainless steel end of RTDX No. 4001 at Denver Union Station on the warm, late autumn night of December 6, 2014. At an open house, Denver’s Regional Transportation District was showing off its newest equipment—electric multiple unit commuter rail cars that will run on four FasTracks rail lines currently under construction. The first four cars were shipped from Hyundai Rotem’s plant in Philadelphia to Denver. RTD has purchased 66 cars to serve the East Rail Line to Denver International Airport, the Northwest Rail Line to Westminster, the Gold Line to Arvada/Wheat Ridge, and the North Metro Rail Line to Thornton. The steel car shells were manufactured at Hyundai Rotem’s plant in South Korea, then shipped to the company’s plant in Philadelphia for final assembly.
