Built as #423 in August of 1882 for the Columbus, Chicago & Indiana Central RR, the "One Spot" did not make it into the hands of the Clinchfield Railroad until 1900. It did so by way of it's predecessor, the Ohio River & Charleston Railway as #5, then South & Western Railway #5, and finally, in 1908, as Carolina, Clinchfield & Ohio Railway #5, the holding company for the Clinchfield. They in turn sold the engine to the Black Mountain Railway Company in 1913.
She was repurchased by the Clinchfield in 1955 only to be donated to the City of Erwin in TN that same year. By 1968, the railroad wanted her back and this was when she ran excursions for the Clinchfield until being donated to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum in 1981. Whew! And now you know!
