| Built in December 1972 for the Durham & Southern as their Nº2000, the unit was one of four purchased by the carrier and is noted for being their Bicentennial unit of 1976. All four former D&S units survive in active service. CSXT 2556 is noted for still retaining it's as built 1,700 gallon fuel tank. After the SCL takeover, the DS GP38-2s numbered 2000-2003 became SCL 556-559 respectively then came the formation of Seaboard System prior to CSX where the units received their current 2556-2559 number series. |
