Remarks & Notes
On a dreary late winter afternoon in Huntington Yard, an unusual unobstructed view allows us to capture much of the railroad's Huntington Locomotive Shops dead/storage line. Here, one particular engine of interest includes ICE SD40-2 No. 6413, which was involved in a rockslide derailment in March 2012 while on CSX rails. Ironically, the locomotive had suffered severe damage to its conductors side cab in 2007 while in operation in Iowa. While repaired then, the 2012 rockslide proved to be too much for this locomotive to return to revenue service. Bad luck, perhaps? Just a few engines to the west out of the photo is CSX SD40-2 No. 8888.

These are engines that are either already scrapped, are in deadlines, or they're in severe danger of being scrapped. Not everything can be preserved.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
