What you see here is the sad remains of part of what was once a busy and vibrant operation of the South African Railways, and in later years Alfred County Railway and the Banana Express - the two foot narrow gauge operation at Port Shepstone. A bridge washaway in 2007 during flooding put an end to the Banana Express operations, which was very popular with tourists and steam enthusiasts. The remaining locos and rolling stock were moved out (a lot of it to Paddock) and this area was totally flattened during 2012, about a year after this photo was taken.
