| GM&O's SD40s didn't visit Birmingham prior to the ICG merger due to restrictions on the L&N line used to reach B'ham from home rails at Tuscaloosa. After the merger, they became frequent sights at east Thomas, as they were perfect for lugging trains over the tough terrain on the former IC line down from Memphis. |
