Surrounded by an assortment of scrap metal and an out-of-place school bus, Elk River Railroad EMD GP9 No. 4 and low nose EMD GP9 No. 5 sit in the small Gassaway industrial yard. This location is the headquarters of the obscure Elk River Railroad, a former B&O route that once served a nearby coal customer. Today, the all, but abandoned operation still receives inbound cars for storage and maintenance purposes.
