| Retired in 1951 and surviving the cutting torch shortly after, Pere Marquette 1223 has lived a long life of display while sister 1225 has continued to breathe on the other side of the state. First arriving at the Michigan State Fairgrounds in Detroit in 1960, 1223 found her final resting place 21 years later in the lakeshore resort community of Grand Haven. Although it's been cosmetically restored, 1223 will likely never run again due to missing driving pistons and the cost to restore the 73-year-old locomotive to operating condition. |
