These two East Broad Top hopper car couplers have been frozen in this position for every winter, spring, summer and fall since 1956.

When I look back on the panoply of life I have experienced in the intervening 58 years, and then confront the fact these two forged clasping hands have not moved an inch in that time, my life is reduced to the nanosecond it is.
