Birmingham bound intermodal train Q184 charges through Newnan, Ga. at 23:11 as it slams the NS diamond of the former Central of Georgia. The former CofG main once carried trains from Chattanooga, Tn. to Macon, Ga. via Rome and Griffin. It was at this point that the Central's famed passenger train the Man O' War exited the Atlanta & West Point Route of which it ran with trackage rights on from East Point, it then continued east on home rails to Columbus, Ga. via a split at Raymond. The A&WP was also the original routing of the Crescent before rights were handed over to the Southern Railway which continued with the infamous "Crescent" name. Amtrak still carries the title today on trains 19 and 20. The connection between the A&WP and CofG was located just out of sight to the right of the photo, geographically east. The Depot which served both roads sat directly behind the second and third unit on the northwest corner of the diamond. All the trademarks which made Newnan noteworthy as a junction between the two former carriers were all demolished by the early 1970s. The coaling tower over the A&WP still stands over the main just south of the crossing which is the only ghostly reminder of days gone by.
