A historic special train of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, a cog railroad line from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the top of the Zugspitze at almost 3000m (9800 ft), is waiting to depart. This engine was built in 1930 when the line was opened. Is is one of four engines that do not have cog wheels. They pulled the trains for about 5 miles to the base of the cog section at Grainau, where engines were switched while passengers could stay on board and continue for another 7 miles to the summit. Today, modern powered railcars cover the entire length of the line.
