The Pandhandle Bridge once carried mail and passenger traffic to Pennsylvania Union Station for the Panhandle Route, a branch of the Pennsy. Construction first started in 1903, and when Conrail came about, they had no use for the bridge anymore and sold the bridge to Port Authority who revamped the bridge in 1982 as a city wide project for light rail. Here, the PAT carries passengers over this relic to downtown Pittsburgh on a beautiful fall morning.
Pittsburgh no longer has commuter trains and Johnstown no longer has trolleys, but light rail remains strong in Pittsburgh. Mr. Rogers would be pleased.
