Rebuilt 'West Country' class 4-6-2 No 34046 Braunton heads a Pathfinder tours train from Bristol Temple Meads to Canterbury West which it took over from diesel power at Willesden, London on a rather dull Saturday. This was one of the 60 Bulleid light pacific, built by the Southern Railway in 1945-51 with chain driven valve gear and air-smoothed casing, that were rebuilt by British Railways in 1957-61 as conventional locos. Braunton was built in 1946, rebuilt in 1959 and condemned in 1965. After that it spent many years languishing in Woodham's, Barry scrapyard before rescue.
