From 1962 to 1989, Union Pacific Northern No. 844 was renumbered No. 8444 to make room on the locomotive roster for a GP30 in the 800 series. In July 1983, No. 8444 slumbers in UP’s Cheyenne, Wyoming, roundhouse.
