Looking back over some picture from a cooler time, I ran across this February day that came with 35 degree temperatures and snow still sticking to everything but the roads. Over the year, we've all been treated to some of the best foreign power shows in nearly a decade, but many of us thought those times would end as the weather warmed up again. It hasn't, and now it's a sign of dire times for American railroads. Crew and power shortages are at extreme highs, and railroads are so desperate to move freight that they'll take any power they can get their hands on. This ex-Burlington Northern SD40-2 serves as a perfect example. Back to this cool September day now--the issues continue to build up, as CSX filled up Tilford Yard yesterday and had no crews called to move anything out, and Norfolk Southern's Inman Yardmaster just reported that they are out of EOTs. Hopefully this gets fixed before slow movement catches up with the railroads and change our common interest as we know it.
