Remarks & Notes
This year marked the 50th Anniversary of Montana's famous "Centennial Train" that ran through 18 states in the summer of 1964 en route to New York City and back as a tourism publicity effort. Twenty-five cars were fitted with a wood exterior so that nearly 150 massive Western murals could be attached to the cars. The train was a huge hit and one of the cars is preserved today at the former Union Pacific depot at West Yellowstone (now a very good museum). A part of the depot is dedicated to telling the story of the Centennial Train and a video helps visitors understand just how big of an undertaking the train was.
