Remarks & Notes |
This year marked the 50th Anniversary of Montana's famous "Centennial Train" that ran through 18 states in the summer of 1964 en route to New York City and back as a tourism publicity effort. Twenty-five cars were fitted with a wood exterior so that nearly 150 massive Western murals could be attached to the cars. The train was a huge hit and one of the cars is preserved today at the former Union Pacific depot at West Yellowstone (now a very good museum). A part of the depot is dedicated to telling the story of the Centennial Train and a video helps visitors understand just how big of an undertaking the train was. |
