Remarks & Notes
Last of the Lightning Stripes
The last two units on Canadian Pacific's roster to wear classic D&H lightning stripe paint, GP38-2s 7303 and 7304, lug a heavy D45 local north past the cosmetically restored XO Tower on CP's Freight Subdivision. XO once controlled the Boston & Maine and Delaware & Hudson crossing at the east end of the busy Mechanicville Yard complex. It was closed in the early 1970s and sat in disrepair for decades. XO is currently owned by the City of Mechanicville and has undergone slow restoration over the last decade. Cloudy weather on this day permitted this shot, as D45 typically passes northbound at a time when the sun is directly behind the tower.
