With the acquisition of new power, the BNSF Railway has had to renumber some units to get more numerical organization into their roster. This necessitated the renumbering of their 38 GP60s (of the original 40 units) into the 159-class. (This also required the renumbering of a few GP60Ms, too, in order to eliminate any holes created by retired units, so BNSF GP60M 159 now wears a new number as well. This makes this unit the second BNSF 159.) On August 30th, 2014, GP60 159, the former BNSF 8700 (originally ATSF 4000) sits with GP60M 117 between jobs at the railroad's Watson Yard in Wilmington, California.
