Remarks & Notes
Sometimes you got to gamble for the big game in this hobby. It's no lie that I take full advantage of my grueling night shift job to occasionally catch a daylight weekday gem like this if timing allows and the chances look good. Unfortunately often I'm dead tired having been up over 24 hours in some cases. This was one of those classic crunch Heritage catches that had it all. A set of lucky circumstances had put this train out of Buffalo in a perfect morning daylight window, yet the blue sky soon became threatened with of low instability clouds and a rash of backed up traffic ahead of the train threatened the short time crew to outlaw before reaching Selkirk Yard on the Selkirk Sub. In a dramatic moment, the sun speared down in a break in the heavy clouds on the 'winged' Erie ACE as it thundered out of the west past the VO interlocking on it's last leg of it's long journey with Port of Albany tanks. A very close call on a rare visitor to the region. But tired or not, you gotta play to win.
