| The half mile or so of trackage just south of Union Pacific’s North Yard in Salt Lake City is a great place to see trains. Lots of trains and very good public access. This shot shows the MOGRO-24 on the left with the UP 4640 leading, in the process of setting out a cut of cars at North yard. It is being passed on the right by a light power set led by UP1628 heading back to the UP Roper yard a few miles to the south. This power set had just delivered a Roper to North Yard transfer run. In the background underneath the processing towers of the Tesoro refinery can be seen the ranks of UTA Front Runner cars sitting at the Front Runner maintenance facility awaiting their Monday morning return to work. |
