The 200 km/h Mattstetten - Rothrist line (right) sees very little freight traffic because of the dense passenger traffic and the need for ETCS. However, this weekend the old line (left) was closed due to line works between Herzogenbuchsee and Burgdorf, and all traffic was re-routed either via Biel or via the Mattstetten - Rothrist line, allowing us to picture some freight trains (probably doing 120 km/h) on the "high speed" line.
The old line was served by trains from Bern to Burgdorf, a bus service to Herzogenbuchsee, and connecting trains to Zurich. The Herzogenbuchsee - Zürich service on the old line just fit in nicely, no cheating involved!
