UP pool power working a Puget Sound and Pacific garbage train had just crested Maxwell Hill and was coasting by Stimson Siding. The crew had to double the hill due to the tonnage and grade, about 200' elevation gained in a little over a mile and a half, making for a long day over the road. Stimson is too short to be useful in a situation such as this, so they would continue to McCleary Junction to set out this first section.
