| South Amboy was the home for the last of the great places for locomotive changes from electric to diesel (New Haven hung on for awhile longer, and it's still done in Washington, but not with power as cool as South Amboy had). NJDOT maintained a fleet of attractive E8s that took trains to the Jersey Shore after GG1s delivered them from New York. Thus, the South Amboy engine terminal was always full of interesting power. |
