Remarks & Notes |
A westbound unit ballast train climbs out of Helena into the setting sun. The engineer shades his face in order to see the track ahead. A brace of MRL helpers shove hard on the rear as the train gains elevation. Carroll Collage can be seen above the head-end locomotives. It is a private school founded in 1909. The school was heavily damaged in a MRL 1989 runaway, in which a cut of cars rolled 9 miles downgrade in severe cold and collided with a work train. The wreck resulted in a massive explosion. |
