With forecast heavy rains for New England, the Connecticut River dams were opened to allow extra drainage and lower the river level. This made for a unique photo opportunity on July 2, with the ability to walk nearly halfway across the river and provide a bit of a different angle to the NECR's large bridge between Windsor, Vermont and Cornish, New Hampshire. What was completely unexpected just before the train was the arrival of non-Norfolk Southern thoroughbreds! Some of them were unphased by the passage of the 324 train with NECR SD40-2s (SD40T-2 carbody) 3317 and (SD40 carbody) 2714 leading GP38 3850.
