The first rays of an early morning sun illuminate the rolling hills of Tehachapi Pass, silhouetting the descent of a manifest destined for Bakersfield. The Southern Pacific pass serves as a critical passage for trains traveling to the San Joaquin Valley from the Mojave Desert. The route today, at near capacity will soon see extensive upgrades to its infrastructure and track layout in an effort to increase efficiency and capacity.
