Every once in awhile, you'll have some good luck... Numerous times on this trip to NAU's orientation, my father and I stopped to photograph trains. Waiting up to two hours to catch one train in the right light. Well, recently, trains haven't been cooperating with us. On Friday, we wait for an an hour and a half at East Seligman waiting for an eastbound Z train to photograph it in glint light, and a westbound manifest that would have been in great light. We waited till the sunsetted behind the mountain, which resulted in the shots to be gone. As soon as we drove away, the eastbound's headlights peaked over the horizon. As well, as the westbound's. What luck. Other events like this happened at Topock Tuesday and today. Now, at Ibis (Arrowhead Jct.), the light went away for my glint shot that I had in mind. I then saw the opportunity to photograph the sunset with an eastbound, but I had no clue where the next eastbound was. So, hoping past performance would not happen again, I set up for the shot. With the light almost gone, and my hopes draining due to the 100 plus degree heat all day, a headlight came from the west. The headlight of an eastbound San Bernardino, CA to Willow Springs, IL high priority intermodel train racing across the eastern Mojave Desert rounded the curve towards Needles on the first sunset of the 2014 summer season.
