Last dance?.....Well, maybe. Sporting an immaculately clean boiler jacket and some fresh paint here and there, the Conway Scenic Railroad's hefty Canadian National Switcher #7470 emerges from the roundhouse for a brief pose, before taking command of special excursion for the Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts (MBRRE). With the knowledge that 7470's 1,472-day inspection would be expiring in July of 2014, the MBRRE folks elected to charter her for one last tour of the railroad's mileage to Conway, Redstone and Bartlett. The result was an all-day photo excursion for about 100 lucky patrons. The railroad has apparently applied to the FRA for an extension on the deadline for the boiler inspection, so it is possible that we may yet see 7470 a few more times. If granted, the extension would allow her to operate during the fall colors season, and for the annual "Steam in the Snow" excursion in January of 2015. After that, it is expected that she'll be out of service for at least a couple of years.
