| R.I.P. Saiccor No.1 ex SAR Class 19D, No. 2697 (4-8-2), withdrawn from service permanently (sustained running damages beyond viable repair) shortly after this photo was taken in 2013. The last of industrial working steam operations in South Africa is carried out at the Saiccor Paper Mill at Umkomaas on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast. This is Saiccor No. 1 leaving the Exchange Yard at Umkomaas with a load of timber for the mill. She was built in 1938 by Borsig and was one of 268 of her class placed in service by South African Railways. |
