Remarks & Notes

A power line-up. It's just after dawn on a cold morning in February, and the locomotives of the Nevada Northern Railway are getting ready for work. Pictured here are the four work horses that are currently operable. On the extreme left, SD9 #204, is a transplant from the Southern Pacific Railroad. She's the current yard goat and does most of the heavy lifting when the steam engines are not in use. Next in line is Alco RS-3 #109. She's a native of the NN, and a favorite of some photo charter patrons because....well, because she smokes like a steam engine. The high-stepping Baldwin 10-wheeler #40 is next to the 109. The 40 sees limited use because her running gear is a bit worn and needs some TLC. She runs mostly on the photo shoot weekends, and is the back-up to the 93 on the regular passenger trains. Last in line to the far right is the hefty Alco Consolidation #93. She's a heavy freight locomotive and can haul just about anything the museum might envision putting on a train. the 93 had a major running gear rehab a few years back and is the primary steam engine in the stable.
