| A gaggle of Kennecott Copper Corporation pit motors mingle at the 6190 Yard in Utah's famous Bingham Canyon Copper Mine. Among the group is KCC 763, a 90-ton electric built by GE for Kennecott in March of 1942. Kennecott leased 12 GP30s from the Rio Grande and the Union Pacific between 1973 and 1978. That lease gave Kennecott the experience it needed to dieselize the pit operations. In turn, the KCC 763 was retired from service by March of 1979 and scrapped at the Dry Forks shops. |
