By the mid 1980s, through traffic on MKT's St Louis line was down to one or two trains in each direction most days. At Eve, Katy had a long fill that lifted their line over the KCS mainline. After acquiring a big chunk of ex-Rock mileage, Katy bought a bunch of second-hand geeps and some new GP39-2s. A bunch of cosmetically similar geeps might have looked boring on paper, but they were in CR blue, PC black, ICG orange and white, Kennecott yellow, and - of course - John Deere green and yellow.
