Remarks & Notes |
An Amtrak Surfliner passes under the historic Sixth Street Bridge over the Los Angeles River. The Sixth Street Bridge was constructed in 1932 and was the precursor to California's famous freeways. It was built using concrete mixed onsite, and the concrete has a high alkali content. The bridge is decaying from within, and rehabilitation is not possible. During the next few years the bridge will be demolished and replaced, despite its listing on the National Register of Historic Places. A rail photography guide to the L.A. River bridges can be found at http://blog.railroadphotographer.com/2014/04/looking-down-in-la.html |
