Standing tall and glaring down on this streamliner in its final hour, the scrapper looks like he's just slain a mighty beast as smoke rises from the wounds. The 486 was built in 1957 for the New Haven and spent the majority of its life serving routes in and out of New York City. It was one of six FL9s that made it to the HEP era at Amtrak, regularly hauling passenger trains between Albany and the big apple until around 1995. It remained on the Amtrak roster until 2003 and was sold to the Morristown & Erie, who still operates sister units 488 and 489 on the Maine Eastern Railroad. Photo taken with permission.
