Where the Shays play. Mt. Emily Lumber Company Shay #1 poses for a portrait in her natural element.....in the woods of Oregon. Actually, there are not a lot of woods near Prineville, where #1 now makes her home. We had to do some searching to find a spot like this. This section of Central Oregon is almost desert dry and the stands of trees you see in this photo represent about the only wooded stretch of the City of Prineville Railroad. Back when #1 was a work-a-day Shay, she made her living up in the northeastern part of the state, in LaGrande....where tall timber is much more prevalent than it is here.
