Rogoza - At 175 feet below sea level, Rogoza sits atop the border of the Imperial and Coachella Valleys near the Salton Sea. Most of the area lying beyond the sign is lower than sea level and it makes for a hot and arid landscape. To the South is the Imperial Dunes and also known as Glamis, and to the West across State Route 111 is the north end of the Salton Sea. Station Rogoza is named for SP Conductor Carl Rogoza that passed away from a heart attack while on board a train near the site and the sign itself is located adjacent to the US Border Patrol station on Hwy. 111. If you wish to view the sign, you will need to let the nice people at the border stop know what you are doing and ask if they mind. If permission is granted, they will ask that you don't photograph the agents or the check point and their equipment. Other than that, they seemed accommodating, although we did get some hard stares from agents arriving out of the field and parking in the dirt lot that we were standing in. However, once they talked with the other agents manning the check point, everything became copacetic and they went about their business.
