Remarks & Notes
During the late 1970's the most well known locomotive based at Voorbaai depot (Mossel Bay) was this class GMAM 4-8-2 + 2-8-4 garratt, unofficially named "Amin" after Idi Amin, the infamous president of the East African country Uganda. The regular crew were of the opinion that their locomotive was also big, black and covered in decorations! On a cool autumn morning "Amin" is seen working the Port Elizabeth - Cape Town passenger train near Camfer, between Oudtshoorn and George.

Good Light, Good Scenery, and a Train

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.

Rare South African photographs (older and newer) on RailPictures.Net, where the potential to recreate them either no longer exists for any number of reasons, or the chances of another opportunity are very slim or non existent!
